On the edge of Courchevel, in the heart of the Three Valleys, La Tania makes a great ski destination for skiers and boarders of all ages and abilities. In recent years many chalet companies have started offering self-catered ski holidays in La Tania – us included. Self-catered breaks provide greater flexibility, more privacy, and – importantly in the current situation – less contact with people outside of your party. So, if it\u2019s your first time going self-catered and you\u2019re after a few tips, then this insider\u2019s guide to a self-catered ski holiday in La Tania might be just the ticket.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Plan ahead.<\/strong> Shopping in-resort can be a little pricey, so it\u2019s worth a little pre-planning to ensure your shopping stays within budget. There is a great supermarket (Super U<\/a>) enroute in Moutiers, just after you turn off the dual carriageway, before you head up the hill. You can always organise a click & collect too to save time or if you are staying with Ski-Dazzle, we can collect for you, for a fee.

  2. Re-stock up at the Sherpa.<\/strong> If you forget anything or need to top up during the week there is a Sherpa in-resort which stocks a decent range of fresh and dried foods and drinks at a fairly reasonable price.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Make the most of the local boulangerie.<\/strong> The bakery in La Tania is open from 7am in the morning so you can enjoy fresh bread and croissants for breakfast, or get enough to make packed lunches for on the hill, or if you are staying with Ski-Dazzle, we can organise a daily delivery to your chalet.

  4. Enjoy a night off cooking – order dinner in.<\/strong> If you fancy a night off the cooking, and don\u2019t fancy all heading out on the town you can order a meal in; or even organise your own private chef. Contact us<\/a> for food delivery and chef options.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Bring the essentials with you.<\/strong> OK, this is clearly dependent upon your mode of transport, however if you have room in your suitcase \/ hand luggage \/ car, and restrictions allow, here are a few essentials you might like to bring: tea \/ coffee, Marmite, spices and (hear us out) a slow cooker. Admittedly, the latter requires a little more room, but it is perfect for preparing food in advance so you can return home to a hot meal after a day on the slopes.<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Fuel up at lunchtime.<\/strong> Do you often get carried away at lunch and struggle to eat your evening meal while skiing? Or fancy taking advantage of great value lunch deals, like Michelin-starred Le Farcon\u2019s skier lunch<\/a>? Given the flexibility of a self-catered break you can fill your boots at lunchtime and just snack on bread and cheese for supper.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Enjoy a cheese soiree.<\/strong> The deli in La Tania (Saveurs des Alpes) rents fondue and raclette machines so you can enjoy a cheese feast at the fraction of the price from the comfort of your chalet.\u00a0 If you stay with Ski-Dazzle, we offer a Raclette Evening.
