Best après-ski spots in Courchevel and La Tania

With longer days and spring well and truly in the air, our minds turn to long afternoons on a sun terrace at the end of a great day on the slopes. Après-ski (or après) is an integral part of any ski holiday, and there are plenty of spots to unwind and have fun within Courchevel and La Tania. So, if you’re heading our way this winter, you might be interested in our latest blog, as we take a closer look at some of the best après-ski spots in Courchevel and La Tania.

Le Pelican, Courchevel Moriond

Just a few minutes from the foot of the piste in Courchevel Moriond, Le Pelican offers live music at après three times a week. Previously the Boulotte, but now under new ownership, Le Pelican is a cosy and intimate spot to enjoy relaxed drinks and good music after a day on the slopes.

L’Elephant, Courchevel Le Praz

Hidden amid the cobbled streets on Le Praz, The Elephant is a lively sports bar and restaurant which hosts live music at après and late night several times a week. They also have a dart board, pool table and table football table to keep you (or the kids) entertained, and show all the major sporting events if sport is your thing.

Le Peupliers, Courchevel Le Praz

If you’re looking for something a little more upmarket, Le Peupliers hotel, just opposite the lake in Le Praz, is a great place to enjoy a glass of wine or beer in the sun. They’ve lots of outdoor seating – perfect for when the sun is shining – as well as a cosy indoor lounge, complete with comfy seating and a log fire.

La Folie Douce, on the slopes, Méribel

Just over in the neighbouring valley of Méribel, La Folie Douce is a popular après-ski spot, and easily accessible from Courchevel and La Tania via the top of Saulire or the Col de la Loze. It’s always a lively party at the Folie, with pumping tunes, cabaret dancers, table dancing and champagne often sprayed over the crowd. The party starts just after lunch and continues until the lifts close. Just make sure you check the last lift times so you don’t get stuck in the wrong valley.

Pub Le Ski Lodge, La Tania

Pub Le Ski Lodge is a lively spot at the foot of the piste in La Tania, popular with holiday makers and seasonnaires alike. They have live music at après three times a week, which is usually packed to the rafters with people keen to let off steam and dance the evening away. They also have a large sun terrace, and on late spring days the party often spills outside.

La Taiga, La Tania

Situated on the main road in La Tania, La Taiga describes itself as a cocktail lounge bar, and offer a daily happy hour from 5-7pm. It’s a little more upmarket than their sister bar – Pub Le Ski Lodge – and they usually have live music at après twice a week, as well as late night live music (from 10pm). And, if you dance up an appetite, there’s also a restaurant upstairs.

Le Bouc Blanc, top of the La Tania bubble

Located at the top of the La Tania bubble, with stunning views and a large sun terrace, Le Bouc Blanc is a great spot to enjoy a late afternoon on your way home if you’re staying in La Tania. During the spring months, Le Bouc Blanc offer live music to enjoy as the sun sets over the mountain.

In conclusion, whether you are looking for a lively party atmosphere or a cosy and relaxed bar, these resorts have something for everyone. So, be sure to check out these après-ski spots on your next visit to Courchevel or La Tania. And do let us know if there’s somewhere we’ve missed that should have made the list.

Best blue runs in the Three Valleys

Known for their cruisey blue runs and impressive commitment to grooming, the Three Valleys is an immediate skier’s paradise. With so much choice on offer, it’s hard to know where to go, so we thought we’d share some insider tips, to get your holiday off to a flying start. If you’re Three Valleys bound this winter and want to know the best blues to take in the sights and get your skiers legs back, check out our guide to the best blue runs in the Three Valleys.

Gentianes, Courchevel 1650

Usually immaculately groomed Gentianes is a wide and relatively flat blue, above Courchevel 1650 that is perfect for carving, and makes a hero of even the most average skier. Watch out for the crossing with the boulevard half way down. As well as the roller just after it which can give you some serious air if hit at speed.

Creux, Courchevel 1850

Previously a red, Creux is a popular run from the top of Courchevel, heading towards 1650. Although it’s a little steep at the top it’s nice and wide, and when freshly groomed, a real joy to ski. It can get busy though, so it’s best hit first thing. Make sure you ski it right to the bottom for a nice cruisey run down to the valley between Courchevel 1650 and 1850, commonly known as the “fruit bowl”.

Folyeres, La Tania

When it comes to scenic runs, you can’t get much better than picturesque Folyeres, which guides you through the trees down to La Tania. With twists and turns and rollers along the way it’s also a really fun route, which the kids (and big kids) love – as long as they’re confident on blues.

Courchevel medley: Pyramids – Ariondaz – Marquis

For the ultimate blues cruise head to the top end of 1650, accessed from the Pyramids drag, where you can take a series of blues, all the way down to the bottom of resort. Take a left off the drag to take Pyramids, before picking up Ariondaz (where you might want to schedule a pit stop at the Bel Air for a hot chocolate or vin chaud), before taking Marquis all the way down to 1650. 800m of often pisted perfection. Watch your speed though at the narrow steep section, on the lower part of Ariondaz.

Lapin, Méribel Village

Another pretty tree run, Lapin will guide you on some hairpin bends with twists and turns from the top of the Golf chair down to Méribel Village. Popular with kids, it’s gentle enough to ski with all the family.

Jerusalem and Biolley, St Martin

Skier’s favourite Jerusalem is a popular run from the top of Méribel, heading down towards St Martin. Also a red previously, it has some gentle rollers which make for a fun ski down. Pick up Biolley at the mid station for a scenic run through the trees and under a tunnel down to quaint St Martin. The sunny side of the valley, it can get slushy late season, so best hit earlier in the day if skiing in March or April.

Bouquetin, Pointe de la Masse

On the far side of the Belleville Valley, is the Pointe de la Masse. Sitting at 2800m, it offers great views across the valley and a lovely long blue run – Bouquetin – which you can take most of the way down, before picking up Vallons or Les enverse down to the bottom of the valley.

Pluviometre, Val Thorens

Accessed from the either the Cote Brune chair on the Méribel side, or the 3 Vallées cable car on the Val Thorens side, Pluviometre offers fast wide open sweeping turns, with lots of space to practice your turns. Turn left at the bottom and across the bridge to reach the heart of Val Thorens, or take a right and head down to Les Menuires, with a myriad of blues to enjoy to your hearts content.

Best restaurants for vegetarians in the Three Valleys

OK, so France isn’t exactly renowned for vegetarian cuisine. Vegetarians living in France in the past have had to endure many a green salad and plate of chips over the years, while watching friends tuck into juicy steaks. Thankfully however, the French are starting to catch on, with vegetarian options starting to pop up on most restaurant menus. So, if you’re a veggie – or you’re trying to eat less meat (labels not required) – then here is our list of some of the best restaurants in the Three Valleys for vegetarians.

Vegetarian options – on the mountain

Bouc Blanc, at the top of the La Tania bubble

The Bouc Blanc is a winner for skiers looking for tasty food, decent portions and great value. It’s also a great option for veggies, offering a selection of dishes including a ginormous and delicious Beaufort tart, a whopping cheese omelette with mounds of fries, a vegan bowl, pesto linguine and some nice but simple salads. Save some room for dessert though – their café gourmand is not to be missed!

Cucina Angelina, bottom of the slopes in Courchevel Moriond

Named after owner and celebrity chef Angelina Hartnett, Cucina Angelina serves Italian food with a sprinkling of French Savoyard flavours. It’s not cheap, but with slippers to replace your ski boots and a swanky lounge area to enjoy an aperitif, it’s worth the splurge. Veggie options include a flavour-packed salad, and a number of pizzas and pasta dishes – including a porcini tagliatelle and four cheese pizza.

Jacks Bar, bottom of the slopes in Méribel

British-run restaurant Jacks serves tasty pub food done well. They also cater well for veggies serving up veggie nachos, bang bang cauliflower, a super tasty veggie burger (made from beetroot and beans), tofu drunken noodles and several veggie pizza options.

Wok Ski, near the bottom of the Moraine and Portet chairlifts, Val Thorens

Wok Ski is an Asian fusion restaurant popular with seasonnaires and holiday makers alike – and for good reason. They serve super tasty vegetarian noodles, soups and wraps which are cooked fresh and great value.  Their menu is based on a build-your-own concept, so you can choose your base (rice or noodles), then pick from meat or veggie additions and finally your choice of sauce. If you like yours packed with flavour you can also help yourself to fresh coriander and chilli to finish it off. Best for sunny days, the food comes in take away boxes which you can feast from in the sun on their terrace of deck chairs.

Vegetarian options – in resort

Copiña, Courchevel Moriond

Tapas bar-come-restaurant Copiña, serves a selection of delicious tapas dishes, which work well for vegetarians looking to try a number of dishes. Veggie options include padron peppers, patatas bravas, Jerusalem artichoke chips, spanish omelette, olives and a manchego salad.

Le Petit Savoyard, Courchevel Moriond

Run by the charming Pascal and his wife Babette, Le Petit Savoyard is a Courchevel favourite. As well as the traditional Savoyard veggie options of fondue and raclette, this year they’ve added a number of decent veggie options to their repertoire. Choose from a delicious hot goats cheese salad, creamy mushroom ravioli and a veggie burger.

Le Farçon, La Tania

Michelin-starred Le Farçon isn’t an obvious choice for vegetarians, renowned for serving up sumptuous meat and fish dishes inspired by the Savoie and local mountain regions. However, if you ring ahead and tell them you’re vegetarian they cater very well – offering delicious veggie options for each course. And, starting at 42€ for a 3-course (closer to 6-courses all in) feast, it’s well worth a visit.

Barometer, Méribel Centre

Based in the centre of Méribel, Barometer serves delicious pub food, with an Italian influence. Head chef James has introduced a number of veggie options including an amazing veggie lasagne which is highly recommended! As well as a mushroom soup, burrata salad, pesto genovese tagliatelle and a boite chaude (hot melted local cheese served with roasted new potatoes and salad). Think fresh, tasty and hearty portions).

Uncle Tsu, Méribel Mottaret

New kid on the block, Uncle Tsu, serves Asian street food to take away from the Centre Commercial in Mottaret. They have a wide range of pan-Asian veggie and vegan options including sushi, noodles, tofu bo bun (a type of noodle salad), satay vegan bowl and veggie samosas. We’re yet to test it out, but if their Instagram account has anything to go by it looks good enough to eat!

Destination Guide: The Three Valleys

The Three Valleys is made up of three major ski resorts (hence the name!): Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens. However within that, there are other smaller resorts within the larger resorts. For example La Tania is part of the Courchevel Valley.  Here’s our destination guide of what the Three Valleys resorts have to offer.

Courchevel & La Tania

Courchevel includes the villages La Tania, Le Praz, Courchevel Village (1550), Courchevel Moriond (1650) and Courchevel 1850. And there is loads to love about Courchevel.

High quality skiing – It’s hard to describe how well taken care of the pistes are in Courchevel. Queues for lifts are rare, everything is interlinked really well, the grooming is immaculate and the resort is constantly getting new upgrades. If you’ve skied in Courchevel before this may be something that you take for granted, but the lift company really puts in a lot of work to make it easily accessible for everyone and a pleasant skiing experience.

Variety of price point options – One of the best things about Courchevel is that the whole valley caters to all types of budgets. Courchevel 1850 is definitely the most expensive and you will struggle to find budget accommodation, however all of the other villages including La Tania have relatively cheaper options. This also goes for food as well. You can opt for easy takeaway pizza or dine at a Michelin star restaurant, and everything in between.

Variety of Pistes – Although many resorts tout themselves as having something for every level of skier, Courchevel and La Tania however truly do. There are a good variety of pistes with numerous accessible beginners areas, loads of wide open pistes for intermediates, and big adventures for powder hounds. So if not everyone in your party is at the same level, you won’t have to worry.

Head to See Courchevel to find out more about the resort or check out our La Tania resort guide for more info about La Tania.

Meribel

Meribel is made up of Meribel Centre, Meribel Village and Meribel Mottaret. It’s a famous resort amongst many British holiday-makers.

Central location within the 3 Valleys – Meribel is known as the heart of the Three Valleys because it’s situated in between Courchevel and Val Thorens. This makes it easy to get around. Spend a few days exploring Courchevel, another few in Val Thorens and really make use of a 3V lift pass.

A great après and party scene – If this is something you’re after on your ski holiday, Meribel has some of the best après in the Three Valleys. The infamous Folie Douce is situated here (although easily accessible from Courchevel). The Rond Point plays music piste-side nearly every day and you can keep the party going into the wee hours a Sully’s. Other great spots include Jacks Bar, The Brewer’s Den, The Tav & Scott’s Pub.

Charming Chalet Village – You won’t see any high-rises or many big block apartments in Meribel. The resort has managed to keep its aesthetic charming and traditional even as it has grown. There are local regulations ensuring all new buildings use local materials and keep within a similar chalet style.

See Meribel has more info about the resort.

three valleys

Val Thorens

Val Thorens has 150km of pistes and includes the villages of St Martin de Belleville and Les Menuires. It also includes what is considered the fourth valley, Orelle. This is off to the far righthand side of the resort.

High Altitude – One of the best perks about Val Thorens is its high altitude. Situated at 2300m it’s the highest resort in the French Alps. And with that comes two things. Firstly, snow. It’s considered a snow-sure resort because it is situated so high, it often doesn’t struggle with snow the way some lower resorts do. But also, it means a longer season. So if you’re looking for an early Dec getaway or want to come out into early May – you can do that in Val Thorens.

Budget-friendly – Val Thorens is an affordable resort, which is why it tends to draw in loads of uni groups and a younger crowd. However, quieter villages further down the mountain have more authentic French alps charm if that is something you’re after.

Festivals and events galore – Of the whole Three Valleys, Val Thorens is host to the most events and festivals. Elctro festival Festi Val Tho runs during the end of March, a bike race Trois Vallees Addict Tour is here and the resort is also often host to the Tour de France.

Check out See Val Thorens website for everything you want to know about the valley.

But we love La Tania the most

We might be biased, but we love La Tania. It gives you all that Courchevel has to offer and it’s just 2 lifts away from accessing Meribel. Along with that it offers you great access to the entire 3V scene at a more reasonable price than the centre villages.

Think a Three Valleys ski holiday might be on the cards for you? Check out our ski chalets in La Tania or get in touch for more info.

Latest news from the Three Valleys.

We’re into June already and after a cold, wet May, it is starting to feel like summer is finally on it’s way. The lifts shut in La Tania on 22 April, and a what a great season we had for snow and sunny days too which is always much appreciated in the winter months.

FOLYERES PISTE 22 APRIL 2019

As usual there’s lots going on this summer. The resorts are open in July and August and once again the lifts are free to use in the Courchevel Valley, which is a great way of getting around to explore the area whether on foot or by bike.

There’s plenty of sporting events to look forward to – Ski Jumping in August, Cycle races, Trails, Golf Tournaments to name a few.

We’ve already had our first cycle race on the new Col de La Loze track and there’s lots of building projects going on too.  Here’s a brief round up of what’s happend so far since the lifts shut and some exciting news for La Tania.

Col de La Loze Cycle Race

There was a cycle race in May on the the new paved cycle track up to Col de La Loze, Courchevel.   The distance from the bottom of the valley is 22.6km and at 2,300m it is the 11th highest paved Col in France and the third highest pass in the Savoie after the Iseran and Galibeir.  The fastest time was one hour and eight minutes.  Not bad going considering it was a pretty miserable day for weather, and low temperatures higher up.

A path is being made on the Meribel side too, with plans to link all the way to Val Thorens.  Rumour has it that they hope that with this new path for cyclists, it will lure the Tour de France back to the area, so watch this space…

Alpinium Building and the World Cup 2023

Work has started again on the new Alpinium building in Le Praz.  The old gondola building has already been bulldozed and they are taking out the old plyons this week by helicopter.  The new high speed gondola up to 1850 will take less than six minutes.

The building is part of the resort’s preparations for the 2023 World Alpine Ski Championship, which Courchevel is hosting jointly with Meribel.

The men’s downhill run will start near the top of the Bouc Blanc piste here in La Tania and then cut across on to Jockeys and down to Le Praz. The Women’s and Team events are being held on the Roc de Fer piste in Méribel.

A new grandstand will be built for the world cup event and the new multi-purpose building will house a medical centre, tourist office, sports facilities and underground parking for 500 cars.  Work is expected to be completed by December 2019.

New Green Run in La Tania

A new green piste back to La Tania is planned for hopefully next winter.  The existing piste, Plan Fontaine is not ideal for beginners as it crosses two red runs and is quite steep in places.

The new piste will have a gentler incline and it will not cross any other pistes, which will make it much safer and a more enjoyable experience for beginners.  The piste will follow much of the existing track through the forest to the left hand side of Folyeres.  (see photo below)

In addition, there will be a new beginners’ area, with two new magic carpets and an underpass for pedestrians. Work starts this summer.

Future Developments

The new hotel/apartment complex for La Tania looks like it is going ahead.  This will be built on the existing car park as you come into La Tania.  The planned for chair lift is not going ahead,  but instead they are going to update the existing gondola in La Tania, similar to the improvements made on the Mont Vallon gondola.

So, lots of improvements and exciting developments to look forward to. More news to follow in the coming months, but in the meantime if you would like to book for winter 2019/2020 do get in touch!

Brexit and French Employment Laws

We still have no information about whether we will be able to employ UK staff after Brexit, but we do know that we have to comply with French laws whether we are in or out of the EU.

Since last winter season, our wage costs have increased by more that 60% (due to the French minimum wage).

Staff are also entitled to more time off, which means they will be having two days off a week next season.

You may have seen that some of the larger tour operators now offering catering for just five nights, but as meals out are costly, we will continue to offer dinner on six nights, but one evening there will be no staff on duty. On this night, we will be doing a raclette evening, which is one of the local specialities.

We will leave all the food in the fridge ready prepared for you, so when you are ready, all you need to do is turn on the machines, take out the food, and open some bottles of wine, and you will be all set for a delicious Savoyarde evening in the chalet, Bon Appetit!

There will also be two self service breakfasts. On both of these mornings pain au chocolat and croissants from the boulangerie will be delivered to the chalet, and there will be eggs left to boil, plus a platter of cheese of ham as well as cereals, fruit and yoghurts.

Baked goods for our la tania ski chalets

These changes we hope will cause very little disruption to the enjoyment of your holiday, and we appreciate your understanding during these uncertain times.  We sincerely hope that there will be come agreement reached on employing UK staff after Brexit, and we’re hoping like everyone that some decisions are made soon!

What’s new this winter at Ski-Dazzle

Autumn is officially here, and we’re enjoying glorious weather here in the alps, with lots of sunshine and blue skies. We’re not quite ready to put on our winter woolies yet, but it wont’ be long I am sure until we have our first frosts and snow fall.

We have nearly all our staff in place and we’ll be making Christmas Puddings, Cakes and Mincemeat soon ready for our Christmas Guests.  Then, a trip back to the UK in November for British supplies such as tea bags, porridge oats, baked beans and Christmas Crackers.  Every year we come back with a fully loaded bus of goodies!

It has been a busy few months in Chalet Juliette with the renovations almost complete.

We have renovated two bedrooms and two bathrooms this summer.   We’ve done some before and after shots, so you can see the transformation.

In the bathrooms, we have new floor and wall tiles, and a new bathroom suite to include a large walk in shower.   We provide fluffy bathrobes and slippers, l’occitane toiletries and don’t forget a complimentary half hour massage, which really helps to ease those tired aching muscles.

Bathroom after Renovations

In the bedrooms, we have taken out the step, to make just one level, which has made the rooms more spacious. The walls have been decorated, there is a new parquet floor, and we are fitting new curtains. We have chosen 100% pure wool fabric in a Scottish style Tartan, to make the rooms warm and cosy, the perfect place to unwind and relax after a busy day on the slopes.

The wall in the lounge which cracked this winter due to the pressure of the snow on the roof  has been fixed.  The weight must have been something to cause such damage.

The lounge/dining rooms area was totally remodelled two years ago. There’s a gorgeous contemporary wood-burner which revolves and comfy sofas with fur cushions.   Just imagine sitting back and feeling the glow of the fire, whilst sipping a chilled glass of bubbly.

Chalet Living Room

We have a great team working in the chalet. A lovely Kiwi/British couple, one being an experienced chef and my husband Bertrand will also be working in the chalet, running the dinner service.  He is looking forward to preparing mouthwatering French cuisine with English twists!

Bertrand loves nothing more than talking about cheese, so if there is a cheese you would like to try, just let us know. (just don’t pick Camembert)!

He has been on a number of cookery courses this summer.  You won’t want to miss his salted caramel chocolate truffles, they are to die for.

Also featuring, will be Pain Perdu, with a berry compote and vanilla ice cream, which was a big hit at a dinner party recently.

We’re trying out lots of recipes in the coming weeks, and also choosing our wines, who said that work had to be a chore!

Carli and John are returning to Chalet Jamais Bleu. Their season hardly got going last year, due to John getting injured on the slopes. They have been cooking in Scotland this summer and can’t wait to come back.

Chalet Jamais Bleu

We have also decided, because of the changes in regulations, to trial chalet Dahu as a self catered chalet. We are offering some optional extras, to include a daily bread delivery service, a drinks delivery service (wine, beer and soft drinks) plus catering options in the evening to include a Raclette night and two course dinners starting from 16 Euros per person, so if the extra cooking and work is putting you off, you can get some help with this. We know that many of you love a catered chalet and who wouldn’t want to be cooked for and looked after, but if you know of anyone this would appeal to, please let them know.

Also, to comply with French employment laws, we are planning on giving our very hard working staff one full day off and one half day off a week, which means that in our catered chalets there will be two self service breakfasts in the week.

Well, that’s all for now. We’ll keep you updated with what we have planned for this winter in the coming months.  The weeks are booking up quickly, so do get in touch if you would like to book, or have any questions.

Chalet Juliette is a wonderful place to stay, right on the slopes

The layout of the Chalet is great, we particularly liked that you could all sit at the table together or all sit on sofa’s together as a group to play games of an evening – we didn’t find many chalets which offered this when we were looking around.

Every bedroom, toilet, and communal space has been upgraded to a fantastic level. It felt like we were staying in a boutique 5 star hotel! The open plan living space was just the perfect setting for our group to unwind after a big day on the slopes.

Brexit and the French Ski Industry

With Brexit looming, there are uncertain times ahead. So far, we do not know what changes will take place after Brexit, but there is much speculation, and many are saying it will have a negative impact on the French ski industry.

Due to on going changes in legislation, we have to comply more and more with French employment laws. You may have seen that some of the larger tour operators are now offering catering for just five nights, rather than six. Staff must have either one and a half days or two full days off a week.

We have to pay the staff the French minimum wage too, which has seen our wage costs increase significantly.

Ultimately, the French want us to pay our social charges in France, which are very high, which we have so far avoided as currently we are in the EU and can second staff to France. It is uncertain what will happen after we leave the EU, but it is likely that this will no longer be allowed after the transition period which is due to end on 31 December 2020 (if this is agreed, as nothing has been so far due to difficult political issues such as the Northern Ireland Border and governance) The French Ministry for Labour have made it very clear that they intend to put an end to the right to secondment in the travel industry.

The pound has also devalued significantly since the Brexit vote (around 15%)

In light of these changes, many of the big chalet operators have downsized their operations for next season. Ski Total and Snow Chateaux have closed down in La Tania, plus the Hotel Telemark will also not be open (due to disabled access and acoustic issues), so I have a feeling there is going to be a shortage of accommodation in La Tania next season, so if skiing is on your mind, if I were you, I would be booking a holiday sooner rather than later. CLICK HERE to book now or make an enquiry

Despite all the uncertainty and changes, we’re still here! And we’re looking forward to welcoming you in the coming season

First,

Here is what we have going on this summer, and changes taking place for next winter at Ski-Dazzle

In Juliette, this summer, the final two rooms out of the seven are being revamped. We’re having new bathroom suites and tiles in the bathrooms, and the bedrooms will have a complete makeover. You can see the progress by CLICKING HERE

We have also decided, because of the changes in regulations, to trial chalet Dahu as a self catered chalet. We are offering some optional extras, to include a daily bread delivery service, a drinks delivery service (wine, beer and soft drinks) plus catering options in the evening to include a Raclette night and two course dinners starting from 16 Euros per person, so if the extra cooking and work is putting you off, we’ve taken care of that for you. We know that many of you love a catered chalet and who wouldn’t want to be cooked for and looked after, but if you know of anyone this would appeal to, please share this post and let them know.

Next season, all our transfers will be offered via local reputable transfer companies, and when you book with us, we will obtain quotes for you. Le Praz transfers are offering preferential rates to our guests. They also have a 16 seater bus, which is perfect when you book the whole chalet. There’s plenty of space for your luggage, and you will all get to travel together.

Bertrand, my husband will be running Chalet Juliette with a British/NZ couple (Jude and Tim). Tim is an experienced chef and will be cooking the breakfasts and afternoon tea cakes and biscuits.

Bertrand will be preparing the dinners. There will be a strong French influence in his cooking, and if you love cheese, you are in for a treat. Bertrand loves nothing more than talking about cheese, so if there is a cheese you would like to try, just let us know.

Carli and John are returning to Chalet Jamais Bleu. Their season hardly got going last year, due to John getting injured on the slopes. They have been cooking in Scotland this summer and can’t wait to come back.

We’ve been running chalets in La Tania for 16 years now, there have been lots of changes, and many chalet companies have come and gone, but we are still here, which we are very happy about! It is because of your business that we are here, so I just wanted to thank you for choosing us as we really do value you and hope that you will continue to support us through these changes.

Chalet Juliette – makeover

Chalet Juliette to complete its makeover

We have started work on Chalet Juliette to complete its makeover. There are just two bedrooms and bathrooms to do this summer. We have taken out the step in the bedrooms, so the floor will be on one level. The walls will be re-decorated, and we’ll be putting down a parquet floor.

In the bathrooms, there will be new floor and wall tiles, and a new bathroom suite to include a large walk in shower.

The wall in the lounge which cracked this winter due to the pressure of the snow on the roof is also being fixed.

We will keep you posted of the progress throughout the summer.

Summer 2018

The lifts opened in Courchevel this weekend, and the lift system in Courchevel is free this summer, so a bonus for tourists coming to the area. You do, however have to pay for the lifts in the Meribel and Belleville valleys.

There are some easy walks and mountain bike trails on our doorstep. This weekend, we enjoyed a lovely walk behind Bozel towards Tincave. In the photo below, you can see Le Praz, La Tania, 1550 and 1650.

The school holidays have now begun here in France.
At the end of the school term, we enjoyed a day out in Meribel. William and his class mates had some fun pony riding and also climbing in the trees.

The work continues in Le Praz on the new multi purpose building, which will house a medical centre, tourist office, sports facilities and underground car park for 500 cars. A new grandstand for the world cup event is also being built, plus the new 10 seater gondola will be incorporated into the new building.
There is not much to see for now, but you can see the scale of the project, from the photo below, taken a couple of weeks ago.
